The Minister Marriages can be conducted by the minister of Portland Parish Church. Should you wish to have another Church of Scotland minister conduct your marriage service then please make this known at initial enquiry. About marriage We take very seriously the words of Jesus, that marriage is a lasting union between one man and one woman which, in an ideal world, will last for the whole time both partners are alive. Marriage is about companionship, where there is real giving and receiving, helping and being helped, caring and being cared for. In marriage each of you is wholly committed to caring for and looking after the interests of the other and the raising of any children of your relationship. Marriage Preparation Because your marriage is important to us we want to help you lay strong and secure foundations. To help build these we invite you to meet with our minister on a number of occasions to discuss the importance of good communication, lasting commitment, resolving conflict, keeping love alive and developing shared goals and values. If you are being married in Portland Church by a minister other than the Portland minister you are also encouraged to have such conversations with him or the person marrying you.
