Possible plans have been provided by Presbytery as “conversation starters”. Ultimately a plan has to be agreed by 1st November. Plan A: 2 Ministry posts forming a Team Ministry – a single charge • Troon Old/Troon Portland/ Troon St Meddans unite to form a Troon Church including a Local Mission Church in northeast Troon (Meadowgreen) Plan B: 2 Ministry posts, 2 separate charges • Troon Old/Troon Portland/ Troon St Meddans unite to form a Troon Church – 1 Ministry post • Form new Troon Contemporary Lifestyle Church – 1 Ministry post Portland’s Kirk Session met on Thursday the 9th of September and agreed that Plan A was the favoured plan. It was felt that a Team Ministry would serve the Mission requirements of Troon/Loans far more effectively than 2 separate charges. It was noted that nobody understood what is meant by a Contemporary Lifestyle Church. It was also noted that Dundonald will join the group for the discussions and if it is agreed that a new group of Troon/Loans and Dundonald is formed, we would have to adapt this into a new plan. It has to be stressed that there has been no discussion about buildings. A buildings review by Presbytery will take place starting in October of this year and should conclude by February of next year. The Mission Committee will present recommendations for future charges and local allocation of ministry posts at the December 2021 meeting of Presbytery, based on the outcome of Area grouping/sub-grouping discussions. If groupings/sub-groupings fail to reach agreement by 1st November, then the Mission Committee will recommend a default plan taking into consideration the state of local discussions, the starting point being Plan A. It is, therefore, in all our interests to find a mutually acceptable plan as soon as possible. John Reid Session Clerk Portland Parish Church, Troon
